A former DCI agent has paid the fine for the State Trooper caught speeding while driving the governor.

In April, the governor’s SUV was clocked going nearly 20 miles over the speed limit near Iowa Falls.

State troopers didn’t pull over the SUV when they realized it was another trooper driving the governor.

Only last week, Trooper Steve Lawrence was issued a speeding ticket in the incident.

According to the Des Moines Register, former DCI agent Larry Hedlund paid Lawrence’s $181 ticket.

Hedlund was placed on administrative leave one week after complaining about the incident involving the governor’s speeding SUV. According to the Department of Public Safety, he was later fired for insubordination and work rules violations.

The DCI and governor’s office say Hedlund’s firing had nothing to do with his complaint on the speeding issue.

Hedlund has hired an attorney and plans to file a lawsuit against the state.

He told the Des Moines Register he paid for the ticket because Branstad, “had no intention of stepping up and doing so”.
