A 7th grade teacher at Urbandale Middle School, accused of sexually abusing a two teens, faced a judge Thursday morning.

West Des Moines police arrested 23-year-old Benjamin Hoffman Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say Hoffman sexually abused a 13-year-old Urbandale student and a 14-year-old student at Norwalk Middle School, where Hoffman served as a student teacher.

He is charged with 11 counts of sex abuse, one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee and two counts of providing alcohol to a minor.

Investigators say the sex abuse took place at Hoffman’s West Des Moines apartment over the past three months. Police reports show he had intercourse with one of the girls and oral sex with another one of the girls.

A Dallas County judge issued no contact orders for both of his victims.

Hoffman is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $25,000 bond. He’ll be back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 9th.

The Urbandale School District has placed Hoffman on administrative leave.
