Biggest PumpkinThe Iowa State Fair announced winners in two of its “biggest” contests.

The judges only had to pick between two pumpkins in this year’s biggest pumpkin contest.

The winner was Marty Schnicker of Mount Pleasant. His pumpkin tipped the scale at 980 pounds.

Don Young of Des Moines came in second place with a pumpkin which weighed in at 759 pounds.

Another contest named the fair’s biggest bull. This year’s winner is Squirt and comes from Postville. He weighs in 3,032 pounds, 400 pounds lighter than the fair record.

His owner says after last year’s winner he knew he had a champion.

“Last year, last summer when we heard what the winner was down here at the big bull, we took him up town and weighed him and he was pretty close last year so we decided to keep him and bring him down this year,” says Cory Miner.

Visitors to the Iowa State Fair can see Squirt, as well the biggest boar and the biggest ram at the cattle, swine, and sheep barns.
