The fatal crash on I-80 Friday morning came one week after a nationwide project to make I-80 safer came to an end.

The I-80 Challenge was a cooperative effort by officers in 11 states from July 24th to the 31st.

Patrols were increased on the interstate to cut down on dangerous driving.

The final statistics on the eight day project were released Friday.

162 impaired drivers were taken off the road and more than 14,000 citations were written.

More than $2-million in illegal drugs were confiscated including a major pot bust in Adair County.
