A twist on a classic fair food has taken top honors in the Iowa State Fair’s New Food Contest.

The Shrimp Corndog beat out two other finalists – the Strawberry Smoothie On-a-Stick and the Bacon Wrapped Riblet.

Several new foods were submitted in this year’s contest, but before the fair the three finalists were chosen. Over the first four days of the 2013 Iowa State Fair, fairgoers were able to cast their vote for the tastiest treat.

The Shrimp Corndog has three fresh shrimp on a stick and is dipped in corndog batter and deep fried. It’s served with a sweet jalapeno glaze.

You can get one at the Po Boy Stand on Rock Island Avenue.

The dish, along with the other new foods will be available throughout the 2013 fair.
