The state is creating a new app to try and keep teens safe behind the wheel.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says the new texting block app will be called Text Later.

Creators say the new technology will turn off a phone’s texting ability anytime the app detects a speed of 15mph or over.

The DOT is releasing the app in early 2014 and says it will be free fort for teens between the ages of 14 and 17.
