The cost of this spring’s flooding for one eastern Iowa City is totaling more than $1 million.

The city of Cedar Rapids is tallying up all the damage.

Several holes at Jones Golf Course flooded. Other city parks including Cheyenne Dog Park also closed for weeks.

Even the new city hall, which has been open for just a year, took on water in the basement. Critical operations there are now on upper levels.

Mayor Ron Corbett says people should not worry a flood damaging the city’s daily duties.

“I think that’s important that people understand that we’re not just building back in the flood prone area without any protection,” says Corbett.

City leaders say the extra insurance the city invested in following the record flooding in 2008 should cover most of this year’s costs.
