Clinics at a Des Moines metro medical facility are closing early Thursday because its air conditioning has broken.

The extreme heat this week has put a major strain on air conditioning units and some haven’t been able to keep up or have stopped functioning completely.

A spokesperson for UnityPoint says its clinics at the Lakeview Medical Park in West Des Moines will close at noon because of the lack of AC. All patients are being contacted about rescheduling.

Patients in need of urgent or walk-in care can visit another UnityPoint Clinic location.

The building, which is managed by Hubbell, is located at 6000 University Avenue.  A Hubbell spokesperson says work on restoring the air conditioning is being done. A new 1,000 pound motor is being installed and the AC is expected to be restored by the end of Thursday.

Temperatures inside the building are expected to return to normal levels by Friday.
