The Attorney General’s office is warning people about a new scam.

They say criminals are trying to get personal information by calling and emailing Iowans and claiming they are with Microsoft technical support.

People who reported the scam say callers are trying to convince them to download software that may appear to be useful.

But it gives the scammers access to your personal information like passwords, bank accounts, or it may leave a virus on your computer.

If you think you have been targeted you are asked to change your passwords, use an anti-virus software, and report the scam to the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

You can find them here.
