NOT RUNNING: Fitzgerald Says “No” To Gov. Race

State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald will not join the gubernatorial race.

Fitzgerald told Channel 13’s Dave Price in an e-mail that he will not run for governor.

Fitzgerald, who is a Democrat, has served as Iowa’s State Treasurer since first being elected in 1982.

Fellow Democrats Rep. Tyler Olson and Bob Krause have already announced they’re running for governor. State Sen. Jack Hatch hasn’t made an official announcement but has expressed interest in running.

Republican governor Terry Branstad hasn’t officially announced he will run for re-election but he is expected to.
