The extreme heat didn't keep a sell-out crowd away for tonight's season opener at jack trice stadium.

Some say it was the hottest season opener in several years. The heat didn't stop tailgaters from their games and grilling.

ISU tailgater, Jon Pevonka says “I’m so excited for this game. There’s no way I’d miss it, there’s no way. No matter how hot it is, I can’t miss out.”

However, they did find plenty of shady areas and drank lots of water. Some fans arrived before noon to find a shaded spot to tailgate.

Fans say they stayed better hydrated by drinking water instead of alcohol.ISU allowed for fans to bring their own water bottles into the stadium.
