Des Moines police are investigating a morning assault in downtown Des Moines.

Police were called to Cowles Commons, formerly known as Nollen Plaza, around 11:30 Tuesday morning where they found 48-year-old Timothy Pridgen with several stab wounds to his torso.

Witnesses say three or four men assault Pridgen and then took off.

Police say Pridgen was coherent and speaking when they found him on a bench.

“Initially he did not give any indication he knew the suspects. It’s difficult to get strong statements from victims suffering from stab wounds or things like that,” Sgt. Jason Halifax said.

Investigators are also looking at security cameras in nearby businesses in hopes of finding clues into the assault.
