The Iowa democratic and republican parties will hold nominating conventions, Wednesday evening.

They will pick candidates to run in the October 22nd special election for House District 33.

The district includes portions of Polk County.

The seat was left empty when Representative Kevin McCarthy resigned August 15th to take a job with the Iowa attorney general’s office.

The conventions are being held at the parties’ respective headquarters in Des Moines.
