Des Moines police are on the scene of an accident on the metro's south side after a 13-year old boy was hit by a car.

The incident happened near the corner of Southwest Seventh and Army Post Road Wednesday evening.

Friends of the victim told Channel 13 they were crossing Army Post Road when the teen was struck.

"We was running across the street trying to catch the bus right there and my friend was the last one to come across the street then we stopped because he got hit by a car,” recounts witness Jonathan Edwards.

“Only thing I got to see was him up in the air."

Witnesses say the boy was breathing but was not conscious when he was taken to Methodist Hospital.

Officers say he suffered head injuries. Police are not yet releasing his name.

The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
