Recovery efforts have been suspended at Saylorville Lake for a Perry man who went under the surface of the water Tuesday and didn't come back up.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was called to the lake around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after a man jumped off a boat near the Cherry Glen boat ramp and didn't re-surface. Officials say 22-year-old Luis Cuadra was swimming with friends when the incident happened.

Crews launched a water rescue but couldn't find Cuadra. Crews stopped searching Tuesday night when it became too dark.

They began their search again Wednesday morning, using side scan sonar to assist in finding Cuadra's body.

Sgt. Brent Long with the Polk County Sheriff's Office says, "All possible efforts and resources were utilized in an extensive search and unfortunately came up with no results at this time."

Boats will continue to patrol the area and officials will meet within the next few days to decide whether further searches will be done.
