People in eastern Iowa are doing their part to help the Colorado flooding victims.

A new race series in Iowa City is raising money to help the people affected by the Colorado floods, among others.

The downtown race series kicked off Sunday.  Event organizers said they want people to come downtown for the run and then stay to support local businesses.

The idea came from a group in Colorado.  Following the devastation flooding there, organizers decided to also collect donations to send to the American Red Cross to help with flood recovery.

Sunday’s race was a 3K.  The other two races in the series will be held in October.
