Police in western Illinois say they’ve solved a missing person case involving a teenage girl by arresting her stepfather for murder.

Fourteen-year old Chyenne Kircher disappeared in October 2011 from east Dubuque, Illinois.

A note was found left behind saying that she never wanted to be found but local police didn’t believe she had run away.

After their investigation ran cold, this summer they asked state authorities to re-examine the case.

chyenne kircherThat re-examination led police back to Kircher’s home where they took her stepfather into custody, Thursday.

“We have made an arrest,” chief sheriff’s deputy Dave Hachmeister said. “The arrest was made yesterday. We charged Terry L. Abbas with two counts of murder for the homicide of Chyenne Kircher.”

Police say Abbas strangled Chyenne then buried her body in a wooded area behind the family’s house.

Police are excavating an area behind the house where they believe she is buried.

KWWL reports that Abbas was married to Chyenne’s mom, Lori Lyons since 2005.

Abbas, 40, is being held on a $1-million bond.
