An external “domestic situation” was the cause behind a lockdown at Ames High School Thursday.

The school was placed on lockdown around noon on the advice of the school resources officer. Students were kept inside their classrooms and access to the entrances and exits was being restricted.

According to the Ames Police Department there wasn’t an intruder at the school and everyone is safe.

The lockdown ended around 1:30 p.m. and students have resumed their normal schedule. Ames police will be on campus for the rest of the day.
