FATAL CRASH: Name Of Motorcyclist Released

Des Moines police have released the name of a motorcyclist killed in a crash Thursday morning.

Police say 23-year-old James Messner of Des Moines died as a result of injuries suffered in a collision with a car.

The accident happened around 10:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue. Police say Messner was traveling eastbound when his motorcycle collided with the driver’s door of a car making a u-turn. The driver of the car has been identified as 16-year-old Michael Peterson of Des Moines.

Messner was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Whether traffic charges will be filed in case will be determined after the investigation into the crash is complete.
