The man accused of shooting and killing a Rockwell City police officer is scheduled to be arraigned October 1st.

Police say Officer Jamie Beunting was shot during a standoff with Corey Trott on September 13th. Police had gone to the home at 502 Pleasant Street in Rockwell City to arrest Trott on an assault warrant.

Trott refused to come out of the home and when Officer Buenting approached, police say Trott fired a single shot. The bullet struck Officer Buenting and he died from his injuries at a Lake City hospital.

Officer Buenting was laid to rest last week.

Trott faces first degree murder charges in Officer Buenting’s death. He is being held without bond in the Sac County Jail.
