The federal shutdown had threatened around 66,000 Iowa WIC users but it appears the program will have funding until the end of the month.

The program, aimed at providing moms and infants with extra nutrition, sends unused funds back to the USDA at the end of every month.

But because of the shutdown, the USDA is sending the money back. WIC will now use that money to write food checks to struggling mothers through October.

You can help WIC by donating cans of formula to local food pantries.
