Two of Iowa’s largest mail-sorting centers are accepting applications for temporary holiday workers.

The network distribution center in Urbandale and the Des Moines processing and distribution center are looking for 255 workers.

Employment would extend from November 16th through January 10th.

If you’re interested in the job, you can apply at the US Postal Service website.

That holiday hiring boost won’t be much help for Senator Charles Grassley. The Republican says the shutdown is impacting mail service to his offices.

Grassley says Senate postal operations are largely closed down due to the spending standoff.

His Iowa offices are receiving mail but Grassley says he can’t respond by mail.

He is encouraging Iowans to email or call his offices for a faster response. Some of Grassley’s staff is furloughed but there are people taking calls at each of his offices.
