Two men were taken to the hospital in the last two days with similar gunshot wounds.

Des Moines Police are investigating a shooting on the city’s south side on Sunday.

Police responded to a call around 11:30 a.m. that shots were fired at the Willow Bend Apartments on SW 9th Street.   Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Witnesses told police the suspect opened fire inside one of the apartments.

The suspect was hanging around the complex asking for some kind of help, authorities said.

“It sounds like the suspected shooter did contact a couple of different people and wanted to use the phone.  Perhaps through that exchange, there was a disagreement and the victim ended up getting shot in the leg,” said Des Moines Police Lieutenant David Ness.

The shooter left on foot and witnesses only gave descriptions of the suspect, police said.

Des Moines Police are also investigating a shooting on Saturday night that sent a man to the hospital.

The victim was shot in the leg around 8:30 p.m., police said.  Authorities have not released his name or condition.
