ARREST WARRANT: Attorney Wanted For Overbilling State

An arrest warrant has been issued to the Spencer attorney accused by the State Auditor’s Office of submitting false bills.

According to the Des Moines Register, the warrant has been issued for Ney McDaniel.

The 60-year old is accused of overbilling the state of over $177,000 while working as a public defender between 2007 and 2011.

The report by the auditor’s office showed McDaniel claimed hours he didn’t work, including 80 days were he claimed to have worked 24 hours or more. He was paid over $81,000 for those days.

According to the Register, the audit showed McDaniel billed the state for 45.2 hours of work in a single day on one occasion.

Once in custody McDaniel will be formally charged with theft, fraudulent practices and ongoing criminal conduct.
