A federal grant is helping to expand the use of ethanol across the state.

The $250-thousand grant will help pay for what’s called blender pumps.

The pumps mix ethanol with regular gasoline to create a 30-percent ethanol blend.

Currently, E-30 gas can only be used by flex fuel vehicles.

“This pilot program will provide Iowans with additional access to higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel, which will help our farmers, communities and economy in producing, processing and profiting locally,” Governor Branstad announced.

The new pumps should begin showing up in Iowa next year.
