The Iowa Court of Appeals has affirmed the murder conviction of a Des Moines man.

Thirty-year-old Lester Richardson shot and killed Martin Turks outside of the Laundry Center at 21st and University in Des Moines on October 14th, 2010. He was convicted of first degree murder in the case in February of 2012.

In Richardson’s appeal, he claimed the jury was given incorrect instructions about willful injury and his defense counsel was ineffective because they did not object to the jury instructions.

The court says Richardson did not show he had been prejudiced by his counsel’s actions.

Richardson is serving life in prison.
