Des Moines Parks and Recreation has been awarded a big grant for a local park.

A $300-thousand Resource Enhancement and Protection grant or REAP grant will be used to upgrade MacRae Park.

The upgrades include restoration of 35-acres of woodlands, two new trails and additional educational signs.

Fifteen-percent of the REAP fund is set aside for cities that are developing projects to help encourage outdoor recreation and resource management.
