A West Des Moines man is facing a vehicular homicide charge for a crash that killed a man late Monday night.

West Des Moines police say the accident happened just before midnight Monday. A Clive police office was trying to catch up to a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on 86th Street. At the intersection of University Avenue and 22nd Street, on the West Des Moines side, the truck hit a Honda Civic.

The driver of the truck, 30-year-old Jerry Harbour Jr., tried to drive away after the accident but the Clive police officer was able to stop him in the parking lot of the Village Inn on University Avenue.

Police say the driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Crispin of Windsor Heights.

Harbour is charged with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is being held in the Polk County Jail on a bond of $56,000.
