Late Thursday night an SUV crashed into a tree in the Drake neighborhood, but that wasn’t the only dangerous situation the driver found himself in.

Des Moines police say the driver, 38-year-old Sean Lewis, was the same person involved in a police chase.

Officers tried to pull over an SUV at 9th and Grand around 10:00 p.m. but the driver took off. The chase was called off twice because of high speeds.

The SUV ended up crashing into a tree near the intersection of 24th and Clark near the Drake campus. No one was hurt.

Police say they were not actively chasing Lewis when he crashed and officers found the accident scene. They say it appears Lewis lost control.

Lewis was arrested and is facing four charges, including eluding and OWI. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
