The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is in need of some temporary help.

The ARL is looking for foster homes for cats, dogs, and even smaller animals.

The shelter now has about 100 foster families who will take an animal or two and keep them on a foster-basis. If there is an adoption appointment they can bring the animal back to the shelter.

Right now there is an urgent need to place some cats.

“Kittens, they’re not going to thrive in a shelter environment as much as they would in a home environment, so if they’re less than two pounds we’ll put ‘em into a foster home,” says Cindy Gerhke, Foster Coordinator.

The ARL says sometimes a foster family will fall in love with the animal and it’s okay to adopt at that point.
