A University of Northern Iowa professor says Halloween costumes that are too revealing can be damaging for little girls.

Annette Lynch runs the Center for Violence Prevention at UNI and just wrote a book called ‘Porn Chic.’

KWWL reports she said costumes for women — and young girls — are overly sexualized compared to men’s costumes. Lynch says girls’ costumes should demonstrate more independent power, like boys’ costumes.

“We really need to give girls the same kind of options we give boys to dress up in costumes that demonstrate a fantasy about being able to be an active…superhero,” says Annette Lynch.

She recommends parents help kids create their own unique costumes.
