Christmas is just eight weeks away and help is available for people who think it could be a struggle to provide for their families this year.

Next week, families in Ames and Des Moines can apply for assistance from the Salvation Army.

In the metro, applications will be accepted at Joshua Christian Academy on Garfield Avenue. People living in Story County can apply at 703 East Lincolnway in Ames.

All applicants need a photo ID for all adults living in the household, proof of residence, proof of income and identification for each child.

Groceries, gift certificates and toys will be distributed the week before Christmas.
