A Des Moines police officer was sent to the hospital after an assault at the Des Moines International Airport Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say 28-year-old Ann Clark of Story City was trying to board a United flight but an airline supervisors stopped her.

The supervisor told Clark she was too intoxicated to board the airplane.

Authorities say Clark became disruptive and started yelling. Three officers responded. They say Clark kicked and bit them before being cuffed.

“Technically it was two counts of assault on an officer, one count of assault on an officer causing injury,” Des Moines police Sgt. Jason Halifax says.

“So three officers were assaulted and one officer was treated at the hospital and is believed to have fractured her ankle. So she will recover from that but will obviously be on light duty until she returns to work.”

Clark is also charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
