Former CEO Mark Jacobs will make his official entry into the US Senate race Tuesday with a statewide announcement tour.

Jacobs is seeking to replace retiring Senator Tom Harkin and adds his name to a crowded Republican field. They include Sam Clovis, Joni Ernst, Paul Lunde, Scott Schaben, David Young and Matt Whitaker.

Representative Bruce Braley is the only declared Democratic candidate.

gop us senateLieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds has already endorsed Ernst. But the governor has yet to make a pick.

“I don’t rule anything out but it’s my goal to unite the party and do all we can to win this Senate seat and the other state seats in the legislature,” Gov. Branstad said.

Jacobs’ six-day tour of Iowa begins Tuesday morning at 9:30 in Des Moines.
