Authorities have identified a body that was found in a wooded area by a hunter Saturday in western Iowa.

The body was found in Harrison County, near Mondamin.

Fingerprints submitted to an FBI database were able to confirm that the body is that of 52-year-old Michael Gnirk of Hoskins, Nebraska.

Investigators are trying to figure out how Gnirk ended up there. They have not released any information about Gnirk’s cause of death.

If anyone has been in contact with him during the last three to six months, they are asked to contact the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation at 712-322-1585.
