Iowa’s October unemployment rate dropped slightly from the previous month.

Iowa Workforce Development released the numbers Friday, showing a rate of 4.6 percent. That’s a tenth of a percent lower than September’s rate of 4.7 percent.

“Despite some of the adverse effects of the federal government shutdown, Iowa’s economic expansion remained on track in October,” says Teresa Wahlert with the IWD. “The state’s unemployment rate continued to decrease in October, while the labor force and total employment measures were at their highest levels for the year.”

The October unemployment rate is also lower than at the same time last year. October 2012 saw a rate of 5.1 percent.

The national unemployment rate rose in October to 7.3 percent from a September rate of 7.2 percent.
