It was just too cold on Friday night for Waukee’s annual holiday celebration.

Waukee was all set to hold Winterfest, the annual celebration with holiday games and fun for families.

“We’ve never had this festival be this cold before. Matt and I talked this morning early and said we just can’t. Those kids aren’t going to make it standing outside on the triangle where Santa usually arrives at.  We’re just going to have to figure out what we’re going to do,” said Bill Peard of Waukee.

Instead, the Winterfest celebration was moved to Waukee’s new community center.  It was there that dozens of kids were treated to cookies, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.
