It's been one year since someone shot and killed Rashad Adair in Des Moines.

Family and friends gathered Saturday night to remember who he was and ask witnesses to come forward.

“Do the right thing. Have a heart. Have a conscience. You know you would want somebody to do the right thing if it happened to your loved one," said Mothers Against Violence President Calvetta Williams.

On Dec. 7, 2012, Adair was shot six times as he sat in a parked car at 14th Street and Washington Avenue. Adair died 18 days later on Christmas Day.

On Saturday evening, loved ones gathered outside where Adair was shot. Family members said they will hold this vigil every year until Adair’s murderer is brought to justice.

“It would feel so much better we`ll finally have closure and finally have answers to why this happened," said Adair's sister Ashley White.

Adair's birthday is tomorrow. If he had survived, he would be turning 33-years-old.

If you have any information, the Adair family asks that you contact the Des Moines Police Detective Bureau at 515-283-4864 or Polk County Crime Stoppers at 515-223-1400. You can also submit an anonymous tip online through Polk County Crime Stoppers.
