The enigmatic Johnny Orr, former men’s basketball coach at Iowa State University, passed away Monday morning.

The practitioner of Hilton Magic was a beloved coach who ended his career as the winningest coach in ISU hoops history with a record of 218-200.

Johnny Orr remained active in his community even after his retirement from ISU in 1994. Over the years Channel 13 has had the honor and pleasure of working with him to cover some of those events. We’d like to share some of those memories.

In October of 2012, Johnny Orr helped out spreading the word about staying active with the Start Somewhere Walk in Ankeny.

Current Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg has often talked about Orr's influence on him. Hoiberg played for Orr for three years while at Iowa State.
