Des Moines police took part in two chases Tuesday, one of which ended in Ames.

According to officials they tried to pull a car over on 9th and University in Des Moines during rush hour but the driver took off heading for the interstate.

As the chase was nearing Des Moines city limits police called off the chase.  A State Patrol trooper picked up the chase near Ankeny.

Authorities say they reached speeds of 90 to 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended when officers deployed stop sticks south of Ames. The tires gave out north of the Highway 30 interchange on I-35.

There was a child in the car during the chase but police did not say the child’s age.

The driver, Thomas Davis, has been brought back to Des Moines. He will be charged with eluding, interference, and child endangerment.

Davis also has an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
