Iowa Department of Public Health confirms a child had died from the flu.

Officials aren’t identifying the boy, his age or where he’s from.

The medical director says the boy was otherwise healthy, which is very unusual.

When children die from the flu they typically have an underlying condition.

The predominant strain this year is H1N1 which is covered by vaccinations. It tends to hit children and young adults particularly hard.
