Reaction from ag groups on the fiscal year 2014 omnibus spending bill has been mixed.

The American Soybean Association says the bill's energy and water section contains good news for soybean farmers, with more funding allocated to waterways component.

ASA President Ray Gaesser of Corning, Iowa, said he views those provisions as a good sign for progress on a new waterways funding bill.

But National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says the omnibus bill, and language in the conference report are far from perfect.

Parts of the conference report are critical of country of origin labeling, which N-F-U supports. Johnson calls those comments a sign of desperation, and says USDA should dismiss the report language.
