NBC's Bob Costas has been the face of the Olympics for most of the past three decades.

During a visit to the metro, Costas said he is carefully monitoring security concerns ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Terrorists have signaled harm at the Games. Costas said the suicide bombings that have already hit Russia, along with recent additional terrorist threats, will have an impact.

For families planning on attending, Costas said the security threats "give them pause."

Costas added that the threat is bound to have an impact on lines if security is to be effective, “People may spend more time going through security than you do actually enjoying the event you want to visit.”

"I think you're going to find tourism is going to be affected," Costas told WHO-HD before he headlined the Greater Des Moines Partnership's annual dinner in Des Moines.
