The state’s 20 largest employers are promising to hire 2,500 veterans over the next five years.

The Iowa Business Council is made up of leading Iowa businesses.

The pledge is part of Gov. Terry Branstad’s Home Base Iowa initiative. It’s a public-private partnership to recruit veterans from all over the country to work in Iowa.

“The returning veterans come to us with a variety of skills that often map into different disciplines that are more important for certain Iowa Business Council members,” says Larry Zimpleman with the Iowa Business Council.

Iowa Business Council members employ 250,000 people in the state.
