A bartender, a clothing store manager and an e-commerce manager are among the hundreds of jobs posted on the Home Base Iowa website.

It's a bipartisan recruiting attempt to lure retiring veterans nationwide to live, work and retire in Iowa.

Monday Governor Terry Branstad, who launched the idea, said 25 Iowa companies have joined the effort through the Iowa Business Council. The companies collectively pledged to hire 2,500 veterans over the next five years.

"Home Base Iowa is an exciting program that builds our Iowa workforce with the most talented group I know, our returning veterans," said Larry Zimpleman, President & CEO of the Principal Financial Group.
