Almost three years after she was murdered a West Des Moines realtor continues to leave a legacy in the metro.

Ashley Okland was shot to death in April of 2011 while working at a model townhome. No one has been charged in connection with the crime.

While investigators continue working to figure out who is responsible for Okland’s murder, fundraising efforts are beginning for a new playground in her honor.

The Iowa Association of Realtors will donate $100,000 to the Ashley Okland Star Playground project Wednesday.

The park will be located in Ewing Park on Des Moines’ southeast side. All equipment will be designed for children of all ages and abilities.

Realtors will give the check to the Variety Club Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Realtors’ office.
