Gov. Terry Branstad has appointed former congressman Leonard Boswell to the Iowa Department of Transportation Commission.

Boswell takes the seat of Tom Rielly, who resigned because of a business-related conflict of interest. Boswell will fulfill the remainder of Rielly’s term, which ends in 2017.

The seven-member commission develops transportation policies and identifies transportation needs.

Boswell’s appointment takes effect immediately.
