On Tuesday, Iowa legislators greeted a delegation of neighbors from the North as part of Canada Day in Iowa.

Canada's Consul-General in Minneapolis Jamshed Merchant visited the statehouse yesterday morning, along with several members of Saskatchewan's parliament.

Canada is the top export destination for Iowan products, and for the exports of 37 other states. In fact, fully 30 percent of Iowan goods headed to other countries, end up in Canada.

Most of Iowa's exports to Canada consist of animal feed and residue from the food industry. In 2012, those exports were valued at $254 million. The third-largest export in 2012 was agricultural machinery.
