While the snow may be keeping green thumbs at bay, the Des Moines Home and Garden Show is providing visitors with ideas for spring-time home renovations and gardening.

The event started Thursday afternoon at the Iowa Events Center downtown.

Despite the weather cancelling Extreme Makeover’s Ty Pennington’s appearance other celebrities like Frank Fritz of American Pickers will be among those offering inspiration.

Visitors can find tips on everything from home decor and art to outdoor lighting.

“That’s why we’re here. Don’t be afraid to cross the carpet line, come on in and we’ll answer all your questions,” exhibitor Paul Despenas says.

Organizers are expecting nearly 45,000 attendees this weekend. If you’re going Saturday, they recommend you arrive early since it’s the busiest day.
