Des Moines Police have released the name of the woman killed in a hit and run accident Friday night.

52 year old Joan Haggar was trying to cross East Euclid Avenue near the 900 block when a car heading westbound hit her.

It happened around 11 PM just blocks away from her apartment complex where neighbors say she lived alone.

Police were only able to identify one witness.

The witness said the vehicle didn’t slow down or stop after the collision.

Police are searching for a mid-sized vehicle with front end damage, but aren’t sure of a color or make.

There are several restaurants and businesses near where the accident took place.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area to come forward with information.

“There’s a possibility of people coming and going from those businesses, maybe getting gas, buying a pop at the store who we ask to think back to last night and help give us a better description of the suspect’s vehicle,” said Sergeant Jason Halifax of the Des Moines Police Department.

Polk County Crime Stoppers and Des Moines Police are offering a $2,000 dollar reward for information leading to an arrest.
